Starting on January 1, 2027, agricultural employers across the commonwealth must compensate their field workers at rates equal to the standard minimum wage.

This legislative update represents a significant shift in state labor standards, aiming to provide financial security for thousands of farm workers. To ease the financial transition for local agricultural businesses, lawmakers scheduled the implementation date for next year. When the law takes effect in twenty twenty seven, covered farm workers will receive at least 13.75 dollars per hour, which will increase to 15.00 dollars per hour in twenty twenty eight.

While the new regulations apply broadly to domestic agricultural laborers, the final version of the bill preserves distinct federal payroll categories for international guest workers. By aligning farm wages with standard labor rules, Virginia takes a major step toward modernizing working conditions in its critical agricultural sector while reshaping business operations.
